Planting in hay
We are going to plant our potatoes in a bed again this year. We first put down old newspaper, then set our seed potatoes, then cover them with hay. After that, we will soak the hay really good. Our crop is easily harvested using this method, as all we have to do at harvesting time, is to rake aside the hay and gather our crop.

Today I received our new seed catalog. We hope to plant a few more fruit trees, also his year. We already have peach trees, plum tree, fig tree, apple tree, and a wild cherry tree. We are excited about getting the beds ready for planting. We will need to re-plant our strawberry plants this year. They did real well in our raised bed. We also are going to re plant asparagus, since the planting we did a few years ago, did not produce like we expected.

Last year, we decided to try our hand at organic gardening, since we have poor soil quality. We built our beds with cedar logs, then we put everything from leaves to green vegetation, to leftover scraps, in them. Then we took our hose and watered it until it soaked. this was done in fall, so we covered our beds with black plastic , to start the compost process. We wanted pure organic so we did not use any pesticides or anything that would be considered bad for you. I think this year we will be able to use our beds. Now we must figure out how to keep the animals out of it.
